I got my first computer nearly twenty years ago, it was kept in my study and if I wanted to use it I had to go to into the room and separate myself from the rest of the household. I had a Walkman too, carrying lots of cassettes around in my bag so I could get a good selection of music. If I wanted to take pictures I would get my camera or video camera ready (checking I had enough batteries of course!) and if I wanted to make a phone call I would have to find a phone box.
All that has changed over recent years and the old methods of listening to music, going on the computer, taking pictures and making calls has altered beyond recognition. The advent of the mobile phone, iPod and laptop was just the start of the technological transformation.
The laptop was perhaps the best transformation to affect me most. I was studying for a degree and so found it so convenient to be able to sit in the library with my laptop or even do my course work in bed! The internet obviously was incredibly beneficial and coupled with my laptop, I found life so much easier. Of course there were limitations to the laptop. It was quite heavy, the graphics weren't great and although I could download music I kept getting viruses from the sites I was using.
After years of loving my laptop though I stumbled across the iPad! My friend had got one through an internet site and had said how good it was. He got his iPad for free because he had registered with a site called Freebiejeebies, completed an offer and referred other people to do the same. I didn't think it was real, how could anyone get a free iPad just for following the simple steps but he did and so have many others.
Anyway, I was at my friend's house a few months ago and he let me have a go on his iPad.
It was a new one and he hadn't really found out everything that it could do. Being a bit of a geek I had done a little research into the new specifications and found that it beat my laptop hands down! Apart from the obvious things such as its small size and light weight, I found the apps I could download to it absolutely fantastic. It was so small I could put it in my handbag, although my friend made me take it back out unfortunately.
The graphics were amazing and I can honestly say I have never seen such clear pictures. The iPad also lets you call people via FaceTime which means you can call anotherapple user and see them clearly on screen. This has nothing in common with the old video phones, the quality of the picture is superb and there is no delay on the speech. I used the iPad to browse the internet, check the weeks weather, do my shopping online, look at the latest mulberry handbags, listen to music and much, much more.
Once I had messed around with my friend's laptop, I absolutely had to get one for myself. I joined the freebie site that my friend had joined, completed the free offer and referred other people to do the same. Within a matter of weeks I had enough completed referrals to claim my free iPad.
